All Danielson, All the Time!

September 29th, 2008

We are pleased to mark the beginning of a season in which we look back upon and celebrate some of our favorite Danielson titles from a rich back catalog that has spanned over a decade. This epic journey of retrospection begins with the vinyl reissues of …

Choppin' Block

Tell Another Joke At The
Ol’ Choppin’ Block

and…

Compass Kids Album Cover

Fetch The Compass Kids

(both of these titles are being released on
Secretly Canadian)

AND…

Alpha Album Cover
Omega Album Cover

Tri-Danielson!!!
(Alpha/Omega)

(being released on Sounds Familyre)

In addition to being back in print for the first time since 2001, these reissues have some unique attributes. Tell Another Joke At The Ol’ Choppin’ Block is now available as a 2×12″ LP format (as opposed to the 2×10″ format in which it debuted) and includes four bonus songs from a live WFMU session from 1996. Tri-Danielson!!! (Alpha/Omega) has been partially remixed, fully remastered, and makes its vinyl return dressed up in a brilliant new gatefold jacket along with a very special bonus track.

These reissues, along with lots of other wonderful goodies to be rolled out out over the next month and a half (brand new videos, unreleased mp3s from live shows, radio sessions, and much much more), will culminate November 4th (December 1st in the UK) with the release of…

Trying Hartz Album Cover

Trying Hartz (First Fruits ’94-’04), a two-disc retrospective of the first ten years of Danielson’s body of work. Aside from fan favorite album tracks, it includes previously difficult-to-find songs, alternate takes, new intros & outros, and a few very choice live recordings!

Believe it or not, that’s not all! Secretly Canadian is now offering a BRAND NEW, TOTALLY FREE EP from Danielson called Danielson ALIVE!! Click the fruit of your choice in the tree below to download the entire thing!

Danielson Alive!

To continue the celebration EVEN FURTHER, the first domestic Danielson tour in over two years will happen in November (starting Halloween night at the Knitting Factory in NYC). Sheesh…so much Danielson goodness. For more details on the tour and other items, click here, and in the meantime, start celebrating!

Works-in-Progress Month!!!

November 5th, 2007

This month at the Sounds Familyre blog is ‘Works-in-Progress Month’! We’ll be following the creative endeavors of some of our Familyre Artists and Friends, from start to finish. It will be an invitation “into the workshop” as it were, a unique peek into the creative processes of some very unique artists. Each Monday morning, the blog will feature pictures and sound-clips of all work accomplished the week prior. You’ll get to see things develop from raw, untamed musings to completed pieces exploring the beauty, pathos, and humor of everyday (and not-so-everyday) existence; pieces ripe with social-commentary, poignancy, action, and adventure. Something for the whole family!

Click here to see last-month’s posts and to secure front-row seats to ‘Works-in-Progress Month’! Also, the blog now has an RSS feed, so that you will be notified as soon as anything new is posted (just go to the sidebar on the blog page to sign up).

Enjoy!

T-Shirt Testimonials

November 1st, 2007

"I just couldn’t get anything done.  I’d roll out of bed every afternoon at like, I don’t know…2:30? 3:00?  I was too uninspired to get up.  I couldn’t eat, and I certainly couldn’t paint.  All the ideas, they were just…stuck.  I’d put my paintbrush to the canvas and just stand there, paralyzed, for like an hour.  Then, someone bought me a Danielson Necklace T-Shirt, and it was like the fog started lifting.  Not all at once, but real gradual.  Now I’m up every morning at 6:30 and painting by 7:00 AM!  I’ve never had three weeks in a row where I’ve worked so consistently!  I even got a call to do a gallery show next month.  Thanks, Danielson Necklace T-Shirt!"
- Percil Esquire – NY, NY

"My name is Sadie Scrapin, and I’m a reckless driver.  I’ve been driving recklessly for fourteen years.  I didn’t realize that a fender-bender every other month was unusual…not until recently.  I realize the scope of my problem now.  Once the enormity of all those accidents set in (no one was ever hurt–just a lot of crunched car doors and smashed taillights), I felt the need to make amends.   But how?  How can a person track down every single person that they’ve ever crashed into?  So, I decided to take Danielson’s advice and say my apologies creatively through the ‘Did I Step On Your Trumpet’ apology campaign.  Because of the fact that this logo is on a shirt, I can wear my apology, so that whenever anyone that I’ve crashed into, or that I’m GOING to crash into, sees me, the apology is there.  I’ve actually got seven of these shirts: one for each day of the week…just to be safe.  I’ve learned my lesson."
- Sadie Scrapin – Denver, CO

"I love my family.  They’re wonderful.  They really are, but they…we…are not morning people.  The kids are grumpy, my wife is grumpy, I’m grumpy, even our pet rabbit is grumpy.  Compelled by the conviction that there MUST be a different way to start off the morning, I started doing research as to what might help.  I started reading psychology journals, books, going to support groups, anything.  Nothing seemed to be helping.  Then one morning on my way in to work I noticed the happiest, most carefree person strolling down the street.  They were smiling.  They were whistling.  What do they have that I don’t, I thought.  That’s when I noticed they were wearing a Danielson Hartz shirt.  That’s it!  I thought!  That’s the answer!  I bought five, one for each of us with the women’s extra-small for the rabbit.  The package with the shirts arrived in the mail, and that night we all wore them to bed.  The next morning was like the dawning of a new era.  "Honey, can I make you some coffee?"  "Hey sis, how’d you sleep last  night? Well, I hope!"  "What a beautiful morning!"  "Man, I love school!  I can’t wait to take my science test!"  All I can say is thank you.  Thank you, Danielson for making Danielson Hartz T-Shirts.  They’ve made all the difference."
- Joshua Stamper – Collingswood, NJ

That’s right folks.  Danielson T-Shirts are powerful things.  If you’ve already bought one, you’ve done the right thing.  If not, the sale only lasts four more days.  $11 instead of $15.  Get yours today.

eMusic Review of ‘Song of America’ Compilation!

October 22nd, 2007

‘Former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno seems an unlikely curator for a three-disc set that traces the history of America through 50 songs. Then again, Nashville-based folkie Ed Pettersen sometimes probably can’t believe he’s married to Janet Reno’s niece. Either way, the two teamed up to put together this collection that features notable singers and groups of all stripes taking on American classics and American hardly-knowns. Bettye LaVette’s “Streets of Philadelphia” might be the best thing here, but it’s Danielson’s “Happy Days Are Here Again” that’ll have you dancing on the Fourth of July.’

Blog the Night Away!

October 2nd, 2007

Beginning October 1, 2007, our Sounds Familyre artists and friends will be filling up The Official Sounds Familyre Blog with all manner of artistic musings: sketches, recordings, podcasts, animations, columns, poetry, you name it! Sounds Familyre will be posting something different, new, and exciting every week–so make sure you visit often! What’s particularly neat is that you can comment on what you see and hear, enter into dialogue with folks, and in some cases, with the artist too!

Here are some of the great things you have to look forward to this month:

“A Healthy Cardiovascular System” by Leopulde
In addition to finishing up his upcoming masterpiece ‘Lobe’, Leopulde has begun a series of pieces that will culminate in an album of compositional gestures more exploratory and intimate, and entirely instrumental. The first installment of this collection, ‘A Healthy Cardiovascular System’ is a nocturne for the 21st century; featuring the evocative sonorities of saw, viola, cello, and piano, supported by the pathetique strains of accordion.

“Used-Car Buying” by Singing Mechanic
What’s wrong with buying a used-car with new tires? Or a used-car from someone who owns a boat? Why watch out for the little old lady with a batch of brownies? Finally, the answers to your used-car-buying questions…

“Dogman Meditations” by Dan Zimmerman
Like editorial cartoons that are neither editorial nor
cartoons. This series of sketches is a very compelling peek into the strange and magical psyche of Dan Zimmerman.

“Getting Sick on Stage, on Rocket” by John Ringhofer (from Halfhanded Cloud)
Tales from the Ship, Danielson 2006…We don’t need to say anything more. The story speaks for itself…
